Frequently asked Questions (FAQ)
General Questions
Q: What is Food Smart?
A: Food Smart is a family of nutrition management software, comprised of four separate editions, as follows:
Home Edition
($49.95 CDN/USD)
Designed for personal use at home, the Home Edition provides a standard nutrient
analysis for recipes, menus and personal intake records for up to 12 people.
Fitness Edition
($99.95 USD)
A mixture of personal and professional features, the Fitness Edition was
designed for fitness training and nutrition support professionals looking for an
entry-level professional solution. Along with the standard recipe and menu
analysis, this edition supports the tracking of up to 25 client profiles.
Business Edition
($295.00 USD)
Licensed for commercial recipe and menu development and publication, the
Business Edition provides additional features for recording and protecting
recipe and menu authorship information. It also supports customized meal
lists for menu development.
Unlike the Home and Fitness Editions, this edition is licensed for commercial use within the food manufacturing and recreation/hospitality industries.
Professional Edition
($395.00 USD)
The Professional Edition extends the basic client profile record by including
several new areas of data entry, including medical, diet and weight histories,
follow-up notes, detailed Diabetes management records, as well as customizable
daily nutrient recommendations. It supports the tracking of an unlimited
number of client profiles.
The Professional Edition is the only edition licensed for professional use within the healthcare industry.
Q: Do you offer a money back guarantee?
A: Yes, unconditionally on all editions of Food Smart. If at any time after purchase you decide you are not completely satisfied with our software, simply return the complete package back to us for a full refund of your original purchase price.
Q: Is your software available on diskette as well as CD-ROM?
A:
No, we no longer support diskette versions.
Differences Between Editions
Q: Why do you offer different editions of Food Smart?
A: Because we recognize that different users may have different needs, and we don't want to make our software cost prohibitive to home and fitness users, for example, who don't want, nor need, to purchase our Professional Edition.
Q: Why would anyone purchase the Fitness, Business or Professional Editions when the Home Edition provides a complete recipe, menu and client intake analysis?
A: There are two reasons: firstly, we have very specific licensing policies for each edition of Food Smart, and it is illegal for you to misuse the Home Edition for commercial or professional use. Secondly, and more importantly, the higher level editions provide substantially more functionality than the Home Edition, so it is in your best interest to purchase the correct edition.
Q: If I buy the Home, Fitness or Business Edition to get started, can I upgrade to a higher edition later?
A: Yes, you can upgrade from the Home, Fitness or Business Editions of Food Smart to a higher edition at any time after purchase by simply paying the difference in cost. Anyone interested in upgrading their current edition of Food Smart should simply call us for further information. We can usually upgrade your copy immediately over the phone.

Q: Do you support the Macintosh?
A: No, we do not currently offer a Macintosh solution. Presently, no official commercial release date has been set for our web-based solution.
Q: I am already a registered user of Food Smart. Can I upgrade my current version to the Millennium Edition so that all of my data is still available?
A: Yes, you are welcome to upgrade your current version of Food Smart to the new version 5.0, by purchasing an upgrade license, as follows:
Home Edition
- $19.95 per license
Fitness Edition -
$39.95 USD per license
Business Edition - $69.95
USD per license
Professional Edition - $99.95 USD per license
The exact process of moving your existing data up to Food Smart Version 5.0 depends on your current version, but normally it simply means preparing a backup of your existing data (which you have been maintaining all along, anyway, right?) and restoring it into the new version.
For Food Smart versions 2.5 and older, the process is a bit more difficult. We normally recommend that you send us a copy of all of your *.dat files via an email message, and we will do the data conversion up to the Millennium Edition on your behalf, sending you back a backup file containing your data for restoration into your copy of the new version.
